The republic of Turkey exists about 80 years. Since 1982, Turkey is a secular country wherein state and religion are separated from each other. That means that religious things, cannot influent the public live, or politics, and that the position of the woman has improved a lot (think of the right to vote). The modern Turkey of today, is a democracy, based on the human rights. Turkey is a member of the NATO, and of the counsel of Europe, and since 1996 they are a part of the border union within the European Union. RELIGIONThe Islam is the most used religion in Turkey. Around 95 percent of the population is Muslim. Islam means literally 'submit to the will of god'. This religion was founded in the 7 century in Mecca. The 'bible' of the Islam is the Koran. In today's Turkey, everybody lives they're religion as they want. Inland and to the east people live more by the rules of the Koran. In the West, they live by the Koran to, but they live less strictly to the rules. Since Ataturk, by his reforms, made a modern state of Turkey to 'western' example, State and religion are separated. Turkey is no Islamic state, that is why a freedom of religion is guaranteed |
