TRAVELING BY CAR TO TURKEYTravelling to Turkey by car, has increased for some years now. The distance by road between London and Turkey is approximately 3.000 km. If you have a good car, then the travelling time would be at least 46 hours. BY BOATBesides the many cruises that sail on the Mediterranean sea, there are also several foreign companies, who offer regular services to Istanbul, Izmir, Kusadasi and Bodrum. The car ferry boat by Turkish Maritimes Lines, sails every week from April until the end of October from Ancona and Brindisi to Cesme. BY PLANETravelling by plane is the most popular way, because of the fact that there are daily flights, and the average flying time is about 3,5 hours. Turkish Airlines flies on a regular base from each important capital to, Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and Izmir. By charter, with respect to Turkish Airline, it is cheaper, and you can also fly from any important capital to Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir and Bodrum. You can book your flight trough the internet yourself, and pay by credit card. BY TRAINThere are, on a daily base, trains that leave from Amsterdam and Brussels, to Istanbul, via Munich. The travelling time lasts 2 days, and the train crosses the border at Kapile. The traditional route goes via, Vienna, Budapest, Boekarest, Sofia to Istanbul. TRANSPORT IN TURKEYThe most known transport in Turkey is the 'Dolmus', something we don't know in England, Dolmus means literally, 'full'. The Dolmus is a small bus that drives by a certain route. You can stand along that route, and just put up your hand, as a sign to stop the bus. These busses are very cheap, but can be sometimes considerably full. In the tourist centres you will find nowadays good and modern busses. If you wish to travel inland with the Dolmus, it can occur that the material is not that modern. The taxi is also another used way of transport. It is much more comfortable than the Domus, but also more expensive. However, a taxi ride in Turkey is much cheaper than in England. The taxi's use a meter, and you can recognise them by the black-yellow lines, and the sign on the roof of car. During the night, the tariff is more expensive, like in England. The best way to travel long distances in Turkey, is by bus. The bus is faster than the train, and also halts at more places. The railway network in Turkey is not that extended, but on the other hand, the network of bus lines are. Travelling by bus or train in Turkey is not expensive. To rent a car in Turkey is also possible. There are several categories of cars. Especially, the jeep is very popular. However, be very careful with renting a car. The traffic in Turkey, is not what we are used in the United Kingdom. TIME DIFERENCEIn Turkey it is 2 hours later than in England. |
