The Turkish kitchen

The Turkish kitchen is known for its variety, and belongs to the top 5 of the world.

A rich variety to fresh vegetables, soups, fresh fish, meat, and pastry, which are tastefully prepared with colorful spices witch the country produces.

Food is for the Turkish people one of the most important events of the day. For that reason, the wife spend several hours a day in the kitchen to prepare the meal for her family. During a visit to Turkey you will have the opportunity , to get acquainted with those fantastic dishes. A meal generally starts with a Meze. This are starters such as, filled wine leaves, or a yoghurt salad. The main course exists of, fish, or grilled lamb or meat, combined with bread and salad.

For dessert the choice between pastry and sweets is very big, but the Bakavla is the most popular one. This is a booklet of pastry, combined with syrup. In most of the hotels you can expect a mixture of Turkish and International dishes. In the local Turkish restaurants, you will be served Turkish dishes. With those delicacies, it is obvious that alcohol is served. Turkey also has a number of very good wines, and beside wine, Turkey also produces nice beer, and of course don't forget Raki, a strong anise spirit, that can be drunk pure or with water.

Beside these alcoholic spirits, the Turkish coffee and Turkish tea (both very strong ) are very delicious. To the Turkish breakfast you have to get used, olives, sheep cheese, honey, cream butter, tomatoes, cucumber, and of course Turkish black tea.
